Wishbone Flower

(Torenia fournieri)

A Wishbone Flower growing out of a sidewalk

Wishbone Flower is a relatively common flower in containers and small plots. It has a small growth habit compared to Petunias, with maybe less sprawl. It occasionally spills out onto the sidewalks but is relatively rare. I spotted my first pavementplant specimen in 2017, on the 1000 block of McKean, which is on the southern end of Lower Moyamensing. This was the first of three sidewalk outbreaks that I found in South Philly that year.

I found the second sidewalk outbreak that year in a back-street in Pennsport. I gave this one its own small gallery space

The third outbreak that I found in 2017 was in Queen Village. They were behind some large planters and it was a cloudy day, so that I didn't get very clear pictures and I was not able to return to shoot them again before they were removed.

I didn't see any more pavementplant specimens for almost a decade until September of 2026, when I found one in the Fitler Square neighborhood. I gave this one a small gallery, which I will add to if the plant survives until my next visit.
